Pacific Journeys: Trans-Pacific Migrations, Encounters, and Exchanges

A Conference on World History at the Crossroads of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawai'i, February 17-19, 2017

The World History Association Regional Affiliates for Hawai'i, the Northwest and California are jointly sponsoring a conference on world history on the "the meeting place" island (Oahu) of Hawai'i with a view to promote world history in Oceania, the Pacific Rim, Hawaiian and Asia-Pacific Studies. Join us on this journey through multiple themes in World History such as: Trans-Pacific Encounters and Exchange; Asia-Pacific Diplomacy, Military History and Security Regimes; Indigenous Peoples and Movements; Languages and Cultures of Hawai'i, Oceania and the Pacific Rim; Migrations and Immigration; and the relationship between Asia-Pacific Studies and World History.

Proposals on any aspect of World History scholarship and teaching are also welcome.

The conference, which will double as the joint annual meeting of all three regionals, will be held at Hawai'i Pacific University's new campus center on the vibrant downtown Honolulu waterfront. Recommendations for affordable off-campus housing will be forthcoming. Due to Honolulu's superb bus system, the conference site is accessible via a short bus-ride from virtually every hotel in Honolulu. It is close to both the Honolulu International Airport and Waikiki.

This is the initial call for papers. The Final Call for papers will be October 30, 2016 . Conference details will follow. Inquiries may be directed to Prof. Vera Parham, Local Arrangements Chair at vera.parham@mycampus.apus.edu.

Papers should be submitted for consideration to the Program Chair, Prof. Marc Jason Gilbert, at mgilbert@hpu.edu.
