Repurpose Assignment

Assignment: For this assignment, each team will choose a submission (or a collection of submissions) they would like to repurpose for publication. No one wants to read 40-pages of composition, right? For this assignment you must consider how you plan to package and "sell" a peice of composition to the public. Perhaps before you start you should create a list of ideas. Feel free to be creative here:

Example: Instead of publishing essays we will showcase we will showcase 5 or 6 really good topics. Our editors will summarize these topics and explain what makes them "workable". We will take a picture of each student holding his or her paper next to a teacher (dumb idea here . . . I'm just thinking off the top of my head.

Example: We publish the best bibliography in a section we will title Engaging with Sources. Along with the bibliography, we will ask teh contributor to answer the following question: "What is the stranges or ost interesting source you found and how did you find it? We want to see you scouring the archives and buried in books so PLEASE USE DETAILS!!"

Take Away: It's really important to have clear and realistic expectations of what you can "get" from writers and how you plan to "package" it to an audience. You could solicit students for podcasts, but how many of those are you going to get? On the other hand, you could get hundreds of bad essays, but how are you going to sell those to an audience. You have to get a bit creative to make your journal marketbale. This assignment should act as a starting point for that creativity.

Final Product: Place an example of your repuposed product in your class folder. See schedule for due dates.
