MS.Tuba Award

The Tuba section at Washington State University has many tradition. One of the more prominate traditions is the presentation of the "Ms. Tuba Award", in the form of a giant beer stein, to be presented to the winner at the annual Band Banquet. Every player in the section is given the chance to nominate their candidate, and is given the opportunity to announce their nominee's name at the podium to the audience. Since this is a very serious competition, the selection process can stifle even the soundest of minds. After all names are selected to be read, there is one last chance to add names. Only when an additional name is agreed on by the whole section will the player be given more than one nomination.

The Tuba section is an equal opportunity award giver. Everyone in the marching band is observed and evaluated from the first day of Hell Week (see Band Camp link from the CMB main page), until the Band Banquet held during the month of January. From information handed down from past section leaders, the nominees must possess at least one, multiple, or all of the following traits:

  • Be Annoying, obnoxious, or just plain stupid
  • A B!tch or A$$hole
  • An attitude problem
