Quiz 5
Instructions: You need to answer all the questions in this quiz by putting something in each answer field, even if the answer is
"none". When you are entering text data, remember that you can cut and
paste. When you have finished entering the data, click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page. If you want to clear the page and start again, click on the

this quiz is 12 noon Thursday, 2 December 2004.
For any question for which an explicit assumption is asked for, you need to clearly state what you are assuming. To separate paragraphs, put "<br>" between the paragraphs. (Don't include the quotation marks!)
Question 1: Briefly
define and exemplify "negative evidence". Your definition should
distinguish it from postive evidence.
Question 2: As the basis for this answer, explicitly assume that children can or cannot use negative evidence in acquiring a first language. Now, what implications does your belief about children's ability to use negative evidence have for your teaching methods and curriculum for a preschool class.
Question 3: As the basis for this answer, explicitly assume that people learning a second language can or cannot use negative evidence in learning that L2. Now, what implications does your belief about children's ability to use negative evidence have for your teaching methods and curriculum for asecond/foreign language class.
Extra-Credit Question: Choose to discuss either L1 or L2 learning. Describe one kind of evidence would help you to determine that the class of learners you chose can or cannot use negative evidence in language learning. The evidence does not need to be currently available--but it must be obtainable (so, for example, no mindreading allowed).
