COURSE DESCRIPTION
The artistic traditions of Spain are second to none and fascinating in their contextual relations. Significant elements of Spanish art and art history (traditional and modern) are embodied by the seven artists: El Greco, Diego Velazquez, Francisco Goya, Antonio Gaudi, Joen Miro, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Julio Gonzales. By first-hand experience of the culture of Madrid, Toledo, Requena, Valencia, and Barcelona, by attending important museums to view artworks in their original, a more holistic study of art and context will be possible. We will explore the cultural environment of contemporary Spain to enable a more profound understanding of the artists within a discussion of the value and meaning of artistic expression. We will stay in hotels. Course requirements include preparatory meetings, book reports, a travel journal, and a research paper.
