CLASSES

Classes will consist of PowerPoint based presentations (lectures). Note that the images are not merely for interest and entertainment.  They are an integral part of the course.  There will be informal discussion as part of the lectures.  Expect lectures to begin on time and end at the hour.  You should note that not everything is written on the PowerPoint "slides."  There is additional, important information given as part of the lecture.  What is written is a kind of shorthand of elements for me to remember as I talk.

QUESTIONS

These are welcomed and encouraged. If you have questions on esoteric topics, I will try to discuss them with you after class or elsewhere. I try to remember to ask for questions, but you must take responsibility for bringing up questions without my asking.

ATTENDANCE

This is your concern, not mine.  Many instructors take attendance to encourage you to come to class, but I will not do that.  It is not because I think that class isn't important but because I think that you are adults.  All material presented and assigned is fair game for exams, so compensating for missed lectures is recommended. Information generally will not be repeated for those who missed class.  Changes in course procedures, modifications to lectures and other assignments, and even due dates may be done in class.  Whatever happens in class is binding on the entire class whether or not you are there.  Consider yourself warned.

BEHAVIOR

Classroom behavior should reflect respect for the instructor and fellow students. You should be in class at the bell and stay till the end of class. Do not anticipate the end of class by packing up and getting your coat on ahead of the rush.  You may get to leave permanently, if this becomes a problem.  If you must leave for some reason, do so unobtrusively and inform the instructor ahead of time. There is no excuse for rudeness. Lack of civil behavior will be cause for expulsion from the course.  Please note that cell phones can be an irritating intrusion, both for your classmates and for the instructor.  Make sure that your phone is set not to ring before you come to class.  Repeated failure to do so may be a cause for asking you to leave the class permanently.
