Description of Letters from Henry James to Perry in the James Family Papers and in the Calendar of James's Letters

A friend of Henry James from the time that the James family lived in Newport (1860-62), Perry went with William James to study in Germany after his graduation from Harvard (1866). He worked for the North American Review (1872-1877) and was a member of the faculty at Harvard University, but he is best known for his writings on realism and his translations and critiques of European and Japanese literature.  In addition to those listed below, his works include English Literature in the Eighteenth Century (1883), History of Greek Literature (1890), and The Evolution of a Snob (1887).
