Attribution to Shake-speare is based solely on the fact that this poem was published together with the Sonnets by the sleazy Thomas Thorpe in 1609. Ogburn mentions it as indistinguishable in quality from the early de Vere poetry (393). Initially it did not sound like Shake-speare to me, but after reading the E.O. poems and suspected other poetry from Oxford, plus hearing Hank Whittemore's presentation at the 2008 Shakespeare Authorship Studies Conference, it does seem to me that recent attempts to remove it from the canon are misguided.
