Book Cover Assignment
Assignment: Use your knowledge
of typography, color theory, and layout (CARP) principals to
create a book cover for your literary journal. Keep in mind that
you will include your use of basic design principals (color,
typography, contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity) in the final
report of your project at the end of the semester.
Book
Cover:
You must you Adobe InDesign or Photoshop to create
your book cover. There are tutorials on our schedule to help you set up
a document in InDesign or Photoshop. Because we will saddle-stitch the
final book, you do not need to add a spine. However, you should include
a 0.125" bleed around the perimeter. Your cover should also include the
following information:
-Journal Title
-Identification (issue, date, or volume number)
-A featured image
-Appropriate fonts and font colors
-Back Matter (description; blurbs; list of contributors)
Size: You have
some flexibility here, but you will want to create a book that falls
between 6x9 and 8.5x11 inches. Discuss the size of your book with your
editorial team and make sure that the cover matches the length and
width of the layout.
Note to the Copy Editor: Please keep
in mind that part of your group's final grade is based on the
congruence of your journal, which includes the design of your journal.
Therefore, you should lend an eye in
the development and overall editing of this assignment.
