Pitch Assignment
Assignment:
This assignment consists of two parts:
1) You will establish a name, logo, email account, and
publishing description for a literary journal.
2) You will prepare a 2-3 minute pitch and attempt to
persuade your editorial group to customize a literary journal based on
your design
and description. You will also create a
handout
(5 copies) to accompany your pitch. There are details for this handout
below.
You must use Adobe Illustrator to design your logo and create your
handout. Tutorial links are located on the class schedule. Browse the
literary journals listed in New
Pages to help you generate ideas for your platform.
Handout: The handout must
include your journals name, logo, fonts and colors, custom email,
publisher's description. The steps below will help ensure you include
all of the required information:
Step 1: Establish a
name for your literary journal. Google the name to make sure it does
not already exist.
Step 2: Create a gmail account that includes the name of your
literary journal.
Step 3: Create a
logo for your journal. You must use Adobe Illustrator to create your
logo. Keep it clean and simple. Here is an example.
Step 4: Record your
fonts and your font colors on your handout and be prepared to explain
your choices and how they add to the journal's
platform. Here
is an example:
Step 5: Write a
publisher's description for your literary journal. the description
should identify some sort of broad theme or "golden thread"
that will unify the
work you plan to publish. This can be very broad so as not to limit
submissions. For example, you may specify
"individuals in
environments," "travel," "creative nonfiction," or "cross-cultural
experiences." See New Pages for ideas and
examples.
