Acceptance Pending Revision Assignment
Assignment: For this assignment,
each team will choose a submission they would like to see revised by
the contributor before publication. With assistance of the
submissions editor, the copy editor will write an "acceptance pending
revision" letter to the contributor requesting the desired revision(s).
Keep in mind communication with the contributor will vary with the
situation. For example, an author may have further questions, or they
may not respond at all. Carry out the correspondence as appropriate,
but only the first letter is required for this assignment.
Letter: The letter should
clearly establish all expectations from the editing group. This means
you should:
-Explain in detail what changes you want made.
-Articulate why you want the change.
-Make the consequences for non-revision clear i.e. "We will not
publish this piece without revision"
-Tell the contributor how you want to receive the revised
version (Attached in a reply? New submission?)
Tips: Remember
your audience. The contributors may be sensitive regarding judgment of
their "babies." Pay close attention to your tone in the letter in order
to maintain a friendly relationship with your authors and artists.
Consider starting the letter by saying what you like about the work.
Thank them for submitting. Make it as easy as possible for them to do
what you want.
