| Create a logo for InterPlanta

| The logo should strongly suggest, but not be identical, to the the famous Apple, Inc. branding.

| Project 2: Variations of 27 (for all designers) — Option 1
| Using only 9 rectangles, 9 squares, and 9 sticks, create abstract graphic pictures to express the meaning of order, tension, playful, and bold. All 27 items must be used. The specific size and color of the 27 pieces are up to you. This project can be computer generated, or created simply by cutting and pasting.
| Using the same rectangles, squares, and sticks, create an illustration that conveys an abstract “slum composition.” As before, make sure to use all 27 items.
| Using the same rectangles, squares, and sticks, create an illustration that conveys an abstract “high-tech composition.” As before, make sure to use all 27 items.
| Using the same 9 squares, create two abstract compositions that convey both slum and high-tech. One composition should strive to suggest slum and high tech “working effectively together” of the two, and the second should convey a definite tension between the two.
| Project 2: Freeform Variations (for all designers) — Option 2
| Similar for Project 2, Option 1, only now there are no restrictions.
| Using whatever you want in terms of materials, either drawn or photoshoped, create four collages, conveying:
| Create a hybrid composition conveying a “working together” blend of high-tech and slum
| Create a hybrid composition conveying a “tension” between high-tech and slum
| Project 3: Palette Beginnings (for all designers)
| Create a possible palette for Harvest. Your ideas may very likely change later on, but let this serve as a record of your first thoughts.
| Project 4: Inspirational Sources—Possible Design influences
| (Light and Set Designers): find examples of Indian slum interiors and exteriors.
| (costume designers): find examples of contemporary Mumbai male and and female clothing.
| Project 5: Imagining an interior from an existing exterior (Light and Set Designers) — Option 1
| Look over the various exteriors on under the “Colors of India” section. Pick one, and then, and with the exterior firmly in mind, design an interior for it, making sure to include color and as much detail as possible. If you can’t find an exterior you like on the Harvest website, search the internet, or use a photo you’ve taken. Make sure the exterior photograph is included in your dropbox files.
| Starting the same interior you created in Phase 1, add some hi-tech enhancements to it. Let the additions genuinely improve the the basic feel of the interior (i.e. the hi-tech enhancements are working in simpatico with the original space). Again, create a sketch that uses color and as much detail as possible. The overall feeling of space should inviting, comfortable, and relaxing —i.e. a friendly safe space.
| Keeping the same interior, create an environment in which there is a distinct tension between the original space and the hi-tech changes. The overall feeling of the space should be one of ominous discord—a threatening, unsafe place.
| Project 5: Harvest Variations (Light and Set Designers) — Option 2
| This is very similar to the above Project 2; the major difference is that these collages, as much as possible, should be directly connected in feel and form with Harvest. You’ve had more time to carefully think through the play, and these images should reflect this.
| Using photoshop or whatever image and photo editing programs you like, create a “high-tech” collage. If do you don’t want to generate this on the computer, that’s fine. For the most part, let Apple inspired branding dominate the content of your collage.
| Using photoshop or whatever image and photo editing programs you like, create a “slum” collage.
| Create a high-tech and slum collage (your choice whether slum and hi-tech co-exist productively and peacefully, or whether there is tension between the two.

| Project 6: Amazon.in All For You (Costume Designers)
| Look through Amazon.in (Amazon India), and search for traditional Indian clothing for yourself — choices you genuinely like. Please ignore the fact that Amazon’s models are whiter than most Caucasians (maybe blame the caste system, the British, and companies such as Amazon on that sad reality). Become familiar with the clothing and accessory terminology. For women you want to search in what they call the Ethnic Clothing section. Browse through the many varieties of kurtas, leggings, saris, chudidars, palazzo pants, scarfs, shawls, and dupatas. For men search for traditional varieties of dhotis, lunges, and kurtas, and churidhars.
| After looking at the many available choices, pick your top three different traditional Indian looks for yourself. Be very specific about what you want in terms of fabric, color, length, etc.
| Pick one of your three looks and westernize it somewhat. That is, do not completely shift over to a totally western look, but let the changed look be a Indian/American hybrid. Again this should be a look that you would really like for yourself. If you can find an existing picture, that’s fine, but more likely you’ll need to draw or photoshop what you have in mind.
| Let’s assume that the only clothing that exists in the world is what we see on Amazon.in. We all know that there is a great deal of difference between what we see on the street, and what we see in showrooms and online purveyors such as Amazon. For now, however, ignore that fact and let Amazon be all that’s available.
| Pick 2 characters from the play, and choosing only from Amazon.in, find clothing that best suits the characters as they would appear at the beginning of the play.
| Keeping to the same two characters, find clothing that best suits the characters as they would appear at the end of the play. Are the characters at the end of the play more traditional or less traditional (i.e more westernized). Be ready to justify your choices in as much detail as possible.
| Project 6: Final Reflections
| Select a setting for Harvest (sketch or model) from one of the set designers, or make up your own. Create a progression of drawings (either Photoshop created or your own) where there is a feel that more and more tension is developing between the “hi-tech” and “slum” elements.
| Amazon.in versus Reality. Take a look at the beautiful sari’s on Amazon (or in store display windows) and compare them what you see with “street scene” reality. Take photos (or draw sketches if you don’t have a camera) and as much as possible show side by side pictures of Amazon versus Street reality.
| Find pictures from either Amazon or the street that you feel work for each of the characters in Harvest. The pictures you find do not necessarily have to be a perfect match for the characters, maybe there’s just some quality, or some feature, or color combination, that you feel is going in the right direction for the character.
| Come up with 3 effective ways of showing the sudden change from slum to high-tech — changes which are done by the guards in full view of the audience. Nothing is set in stone, this is simply an exercise to generate possible ideas.
