WHEN CANNIBALS ATTACK

Western culture naturally (?) selects the metaphor "food chain" to describe the culinary interconnectedness of species. It also tends to rank the value of plants and creatures in a hierarchy whereby the more worthy comestibles rate higher on that "chain." In other words, turnips and insects are lowly life forms and are eaten by weird and low-class "foreigners." Chicken is a pesky bird, and eaten on a budget. Beefsteaks rank highly. Following this pattern through to its logical end, then, since we're so certain humans are the supreme life form on this creaking planet, shouldn't human be the finest gourmet delicacy?
