CLASSICAL MYTHOLOGY IN FILM

Helen of Troy (1956) -- "swords-and-sandals" depiction with Rossana Podesta and Brigitte Bardot.

Black Orpheus (1958) -- Portuguese modernization of Orpheus and Eurydice.

The Giants of Thessaly (1960) -- Zeus' wrath and Jason's quest for the Golden Fleece.

The Trojan Horse (1962) -- Steve Reeves cares more about Creusa than the original Aeneas.

Electra (1962) -- Irene Papas stars.

Medea (1970) -- Maria Callas stars in an Italian version of the Greek story.

The Trojan Women (1971) -- superb Euripides' play starring Katharine Hepburn.

Clash of the Titans (1981) -- dorky star-studded Perseus story.

The Odyssey (1997) -- Armand Assante as Odysseus and star-studded cast.

Jason and the Argonauts (2000) -- whitewashed crap.

Helen of Troy (2003) -- okay miniseries, but stripped of gods and full of intolerable liberties.

Troy (2004) -- Brad Pitt as Achilles? And also stripped of the gods.
