Allowable Expenses
1.) The Foundation considers the following to be primary research-related expenses:
Participant (subject) compensation
Laboratory equipment purchases (excluding computers), or rental of time-shared equipment (e.g., purchase of time on an fMRI machine)
Compensation of laboratory technical personnel. The compensation must be pro-rated to reflect only the technician's time spent on the funded study proper. The technician must clearly fill a need that no member of the research team can meet
Costs associated with creation and reproduction of research materials
Summer salary and benefits for the principal investigator
Foundation grants must be used for at least one of these four primary expenses.
2.) The Foundation considers the following to be secondary research-related expenses, which will be funded after all primary expenses have been provided for:
Support for a graduate research assistant (if investigator is affiliated with an institution that conducts graduate training) or lab assistant (if investigator is affiliated with an institution that does not conduct graduate training)
Computer and peripherals purchases. The Foundation will provide up to $2000
Costs associated with presentation of the supported research at a domestic scientific conference. The Foundation will provide up to $2000
Telephone costs. The Foundation will compensate at the rate of $25/month
3.) The Foundation considers the following to be nonessential expenses for the conduct of research, and application of grant funds to these expenses is prohibited:
In addition, the Foundation will not cover any indirect costs the organization might normally charge for overseeing distribution of grant funds.
