The R/V Barbara Ann is a decommissioned trawler purchased by a non-profit research foundation, the Makah Marine Institute. The vessel's home port is Neah Bay, Washington. She can go anywhere in the world and is equipped with sophisticated electronics, hydraulics, and navigational tools, and will be equipped with an ROV by the end of the summer. The vessel is being retrofitted with a laboratory, offices and lodging for up to 15 people. She is available for research charters. The goals of this vessel are to provide opportunities for students, teachers and community members to conduct at sea research and educational projects at a reasonable cost. The R/V Barbara Ann will be available for classes and short courses beginning spring 2004.
