Money Unit Overview

This Unit will include
1) reading Weatherford's The History of Money,
2) a visit to the MASC,
3) three quizes,
4) completion of one the Projects below
.

Project Options (complete only one) Due date: April 21 at the beginning of class.

1) Design coins and/or paper money
Based on what you have read about money and what we saw at the MASC, design two (2) pieces of money for a fictional country. These two pieces can be coins, paper money, or one of each. You must supply examples (hand or computer drawn) of the money. In addition, the money examples must be supported by a written essay (two (2) page minimum) that explains your design and your reasoning. You must include citations from the texts we have read and the field trip to the MASC.

2) Design a logo and a credit card for banking company
Based on what you have read about money and what we saw at the MASC, design a company logo and a credit card for a fictional company. The designs may be hand or computer generated. In addition, the designs must be supported by a written essay (two (2) page minimum) that explains your design and your reasoning. You must include citations from the texts we have read and the field trip to the MASC.

3) Analyze your own collection of money
Based on what you have read about money and what we saw at the MASC, analyze your own collection of money. You may use current US money or a collection of old or foreign money. Your collection must include at least four (4) pieces of money. You must provide photocopies of the money you are analyzing. Do not hand in the money itself. You must include citations from the texts we have read and the field trip to the MASC and base your analysis on material from this class. You may use information/idea from our print unit in this analysis, but you must use the money readings. The minimum length for this analysis is four (4) pages.

4) What is the future of money?
Based on what you have read about money and what we saw at the MASC, compose an essay that projects the future of money. You must use the money readings and the MASC field trip as the basis for this projection. This essay should be historically based and project what money might become in the next 50 years. The minimum length for this analysis is four (4) pages.
