An ongoing concern
for making a contribution through research, teaching, and technology has
been the basis for diverse and continuous outreach efforts. Technology
is currently a major component of my outreach efforts.
Faculty Advisor for Student Affiliate Chapters of ITAA WSU is the pioneer student affiliate chapter for newly created International Textiles and Apparel Association Student Affiliate Chapters. Dr. Salusso proposed this structure to the ITAA Council and is piloting the process at WSU and facilitating the development of an international student chapter structure. State-of-the-art technology: a valuable professional tool. College of Agriculture and Home Economics Teaching Grant. A component of grant is to develop networks with apparel industry partners who can help evolve computer-aided design curriculum and facilities; server component should help entire department be more visible electronically.
1996 Principal Investigator: Salusso, C. J. Project Assistant: Tjahjadi, T. (M.A. Thesis research)
Investigation of male consumers' responses to apparel products purchased through mail order catalogs. A solicited project funded by Lands End® Mail Order Catalog company. survey funds (thesis component) plus in-kind product contributions.

Product development: a partnership with industry fostering creativity that impacts product design. An invited project with Gargoyles, Inc. wherein product development students researched current sun-glasses designs and proposed new designs. Project included a student scholarship.

Establishment of a fiber, textiles, and apparel information resource on the world wide web. A joint university project supported by USDA Office of Higher Education Challenge Grant. WSUÕs component supports two state-of-the-art computers, a lab and graduate student assistance.

Putting the International Textiles and Apparel Association on the global communication infrastructure. ITAA Sunbury Textiles Mills, Inc. Grant for Promoting the Profession
1997 Project Director for WSU: Salusso, C.J.
University and Industry Partnership: Pacific Northwest Apparel and Textile Consortium. A USDA Challenge grant coauthored with S. Loker (University of Idaho) and C. Jordan (Oregon State). This three year grant includes all the faculty at WSU and UI. WSU became an unfunded partner due to excess challenge grant allocations at WSU. We are functioning on the grant and seeking industry funding of efforts. UI will also support some WSU efforts. The project includes fostering internships, development of a resource directory to serve education and industry and expand interactions among educational institutions and between education and industry.
