Spokane Trip - Morning
Steptoe Butte and Manito Park

Your day exploring the Spokane area begins about eight in the morning. We'll assume you've eaten a light breakfast. Travel north on highway 195. Pass through Colfax and continue driving six more miles until the turnoff to Steptoe Butte, an amazing view of the Palouse (up to 200 miles). There is no hiking necessary at this stop; you can drive all the way to the summit. Once you've enjoyed the view, retrace your steps and get back to highway 195. You've got a big day ahead of you!

Before you get to Spokane, take the Hatch exit and go past the golf course to Manito Park (map and directions). With its 90 beautifully-landscaped acres, it is definitely worth seeing, especially in the summer for the extensive rose gardens. We suggest you take close to an hour to enjoy the beauty and to get the kinks out after your drive. Plus, you'll need some exercise - you'll be eating quite well later in the day.
