Report, Research, Persuade

The many courses I have been fortunate enough to take, both English and otherwise, were often accompanied by written assignments, ranging from argumentative essays, to analytical pieces, to scientific reports. I also worked as a Copy Writer for the Chinook Yearbook for two years.

Chinook Yearbook: Professor Profile, Darwin Week, Cross Country

I wrote these stories with the goal of memorializing aspects of life at WSU, but also viewed them as a chance to hone my writing technique and develope a personal voice.

Deviance - A Sociological Exploration

This essay, completed for Sociology 101, examines the sociological perspective on deviance and the effects of this label on individuals.

Intent and Nature - William Bartram and Lewis & Clark

This work compares the extent to which original purpose and the power of nature affected the style of writing employed by the men of two early explorations into the American Frontier.

Hygiene & Health - Cleaning Machines at the Recreation Center

This persuasive piece employs the Toulmin Model of argumentation to express my opinion that staff members at the WSU Recreation Center should be responsible for enforcing the "wipe-down" rule concerning equipment in the center.

Plant Potential as Antibiotic Treatments

I completed the laboratory research for, and writing of, this report in an Honors science course with the collaboration of two other undergraduate students.

Orality, Textuality, and Authoship in Charles Brockden Brown's "Wieland"

This piece analyzes the ways in which a character in Brockden Brown's novel obtains aspects of textual communication, despite the fact that he communicates orally and how this relates to the over-arching idea of authorship.
